Quit Smoking Pill… Chantix (varenicline) Or Zyban (bupropion) ?

Anyone have any experience with taking Chantix (Varenicline) or Zyban (bupropion) to quit smoking?
From what I’ve read it seems Zyban works better and Chantix is a honestly new drug for it. Varenicline is a partial antagonist of the niACH receptor and Bupropion is an antidepressant that acts as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, and nicotinic antagonist. Sounds similar in that they dumb/prevent the pleasure of smoking. Seems to me thought that the Bupr. sounds like it would work better since Varen. is only a partial nicotinic antagonist plus Bupr. being an antidepressent helps with the depressive moods associated with quitting.
So the Question: Anyone had experience with both or either or knew a name that has tales about it? Whats prescribed commonly? What side effects and or pros and cons for each did you experience?
Isnt a full nicotinic antagonist better than a partial? And why did they leave out the dopamine reuptake inhibitor?
I’ll try web-md on this too. Thanks

I’m not a huge fan of taking drugs to stop the addiction to another drug. If you really want to quit smoking the program on this site really works and it doesn’t rely on patches or gum or pills.http://www.uhelpyourself.com/quitsmoke
Check it out and excellent luck quitting.

I tried Chantix. It did absolutely not anything for me. I still had huge cravings for cigarettes. Therefore, I am still a smoker.
My sister in law took Chantix for about three months and she smoked for 25 years. She quit. My brother took Zyban and it did not work for him. I know that Chantix is honestly new on the market, but as a nurse the doctors are by it more than Zyban.
I’m not a smoker, so haven’t tried either in person, but patients I have seen who REALLY want to quit have had better luck with Chantix. It blocks that addiction area in the brain, supposedly.
The main side effect is nausea, and if you experience that, you can stay at the lower dose until your body gets used to it.
Excellent luck with quitting. I took care of several patients today who are long term smokers. We cut off a leg with dead, black toes (like this: http://medicine.ucsd.edu/clinicalmed/ext...
caused by vascular insufficiency on one, and fixed a carotid artery on another. Cigarettes are murder on our blood vessels. Quitting now can save you a LOT of distress later on. Do whatever it takes to be thriving!
I do not believe in any of the drugs on the market to quit smoking primarily because I have seen so many public use them just to start up smoking again heavier. I was a heavy smoker for 23 years, (60+ per day) and quit smoking by will power. I convinced myself every time I lit a smoke it tasted horrible and would place the smoke out and would not light another until that was finished. Consequently one cigarette waited a week to be lit a 3rd time and the rest is history. It all boils down to the fact that if you really want to give up smoking you will, otherwise stop trying
I tried Chantix as well and the side effects were terrible dreams and constipation. I didn’t have cravings really but the habit part was something I thought about. As soon as I went off of the Chantix though I ongoing smoking. That’s really my will power failing but the drug was no longer there to curb the cravings.
I am now not smoking again only this time I’m by the Patch. I’ll just keep trying until it takes.
I smoked pretty much my entire life,30 years or so and chantix worked for me.After about three weeks of taking the drug I just lost my desire. My smokes were a huge part of my life.I guess what I didnt realize is that they controled me in every aspect. Its not until I quit that I realized that I was a prisoner of these things.I did hear a few horror tales of taking this medication.I had some weird dreams at times and it made me sleepy but I am now smoke free and I like it.Thank You Chantix for a miracle drug !!!!
