I took the drug Chantix to quit smoking. I completed the entire 12 week program as prescribed and not only slowly increased the dosage when I started, but also slowly weaned myself off at the end. I think many people who take this drug do not take it as directed and as a consequence suffer some really bad side effects. I also suffer from clinical depression and I was concerned about taking this drug. My Psychiatrist said it would be OK as long as I followed the directions. I did notice a slight increase in my depresssion in the second month, but with a little tweak to my anti depressant, she was able to get me over the hump. Again, this drug has been getting a lot of bad press lately and I think the majority of the reports come from people who play around with it and think it is a magic pill that will automatically make them stop smoking. It will not. You must WANT to quit first. I realize that everyone will react differently to drugs but I would be interested to know when these bad effects are reported, how was the person using the drug? That’s my 2 cents. I am grateful for Chantix. It has allowed me to quit smoking for the last time. I also know several other people who have found it to be very successful without all the bad effects that have been reported.
