Quit Smoking Pill – The New way to stop smoking

A quit smoking pill for smoking cessation, which works by blocking nicotinic receptors in the brain, is effective for smoking cessation.

Research shows that it is the most effective pharmacological means of smoking cessation. Good alternative, but the pill can not replace smoking cessation advice.

Chantix, Chantrix or Champix (varenicline) is the first new pharmacological quit smoking pill in many years. The pill contains the substance varenicilin, that works by blocking nicotinic receptors in the brain.

The quit smoking pills has been tested in different ways. One experiment, for example, has revealed that of the group that received varenicline, 22-23 percent managed to stay smoke-free for a year after they were started on treatment.

Of the group receiving bupropion (Zyban), which also is a pharmacological preparation 15-16 percent was smoke-free after a year, but of the participants who received placebo treatment only 8-10 percent was smoke-free after one year. All participants had had brief conversations about smoking cessation.

Not a miracle pill

The Cancer Society is pleased that there now exists a new product to help people quit tobacco.

- Experience with varenicline shows, among other things, that the success rate is higher, in other words, there are several who remain smoke-free, and side effects should not be so bad.

But it requires a prescription from your doctor, and it is, possibly the reason why the product is not so common yet.

Lots of action for help to stop smoking

Personal counseling and smoking cessation courses are the two most effective methods when you want to stop smoking.

-We know that approximately one in five are non-smoking one year after they have received counseling or been in a smoking cessation course. The chances of success increase, if you simultaneously use other tools. That is why, it is good that all the time new products.  At the same time we are trying constantly to develop advice and courses, so there are still several offers to choose from when quitting tobacco.

Last hand on the tiller of the new products are vaccines against smoking – a stop smoking shot.

-The first trials of foreign vaccine shows good results, but the vaccine will never be able to do it alone – advice is also needed.
