Day 4 for me , cold turkey, i'm amazed how the brain and body can try to trick you , that quitting smoking is a bad thing. sad thing is ive went through through this several times, i almost quit for a whole year. I'm really hoping that this time is for good. It doesn't matter how long you've quit, you'll have urges for the rest of your life, but nothing that comes close to the first week of quitting, just looking forward for the hour and day that i am not smoking. what scares me is a friend of mine has quit for 5 yrs before and started back up because she was getting really fat.... Shes now back to smoking in really bad shape , COPD, can't catch her breathe , cough attacks so bad that it turns her face red, you can hear her breathe heavy just while she's sitting , I get grossed out from the flying germs and mucus that she sprays while in a really bad cough attack. Teeth are rotted.
Smoking is just awful. I can't dwell , but just keep on taking it day by day. I can just only hope and pray this is for good, I don't want to end up smoking again in days, weeks , months or even years.
I find that when i really want a smoke, I'll go kick my butt in a jog or bike ride or intense work out, to remind myself how smoking keeps you out of shape and or soak in a hot bath and try to self teach how to cope with stress, because if its not smoking that will shorten your life, stress will, we all have stress and if we dont find ways to deal with it then we are vurnable to the temptations of smoking again.

I don't check in as much as I used too. It is awesome that so many people are giving up the evil cigarette! I look back now and can't even remember smoking :) Now if I can just get hubby to quit!! I took Chantix, third time for me but guess what? Third time was the charm hehe

I have been quit for 9 Months, 2 Days, 20 hours, 8 minutes and 55 seconds (278 days). I have saved $1,254.77 by not smoking 6,970 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Weeks, 3 Days, 4 hours and 50 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 5/8/2011 9:00 PM

Day 7 today. I quit cold turkey - just gum and tons of water - after 20 years of smoking "cowboy killers". No one has been buried in the back yard, so I guess I'm doing ok. Now, if only I could get rid of this foghorn cough and lump in my throat. Please tell me that goes away soon!

Nearly 10 days and 13 hours for me but meh, whos counting. Day 7 and 9 were hard, for whatever reason but I keep my cranky pants on and soldiered through. Reckon the husband is ready to kill me, the kids hate me and me, well, I am proud of myself after being a prisoner to something that I stopped enjoying a long time and was costing me the same as an overseas family holiday every year. Congrats to all! It is damn hard so you have done awesome!

Today is day 7 for me :) ! Still coughing a lot and my head is still congested, and I still feel some anxiety, and a little depression, sleep is still tough I just "pop awake" and start worrying about nothing like I'm in some sort of dream world. I'm not sure I even feel like myself yet...gee I sound completely neurotic !

Please tell me I won't feel this way much longer.

I don't have a craving to smoke, but do find myself bored at times when I would have just smoked to pass the boredom.

You guys can do it! I smoked for 18 years and was able to do it. Two things worked for me. First, on days 1, 2 & 3 I allowed myself to have 2 cigarettes. The only catch was I couldn't have them until after 7:00 at night. This proved to me I didn't need one after each meal, in the car, etc. Second, and most important, you have to WANT to quit. I tried to quit several times with no luck. It wasn't until I truely wanted it that I was able to get over the hump. The thing that is so sad to me was it really wasn't that hard, I just needed to "want" it and not just "try" to quit. Good luck everyone!
