What Is A Safe Way To Quit Smoking During Pregnancy?

November 28, 2009 by admin
Filed under Best Way To Quit Smoking

Please don’t say cold turkey, because I have a two year old who needs me to be a kind, loving mother to him, and a husband who is already dealing with enough hormonal outbursts.
Just wondering if anyone had quit during pregnancy and if their dr. said it was okay to use aid, like gum or patches. Success stories of women who quit during pregnancy please.
And, if you want to judge me, please just don’t answer.

—–Ugh.. been there done that..
With my first, my husband flew off to Iraq when i was 11 weeks pregnant. I knew i was pregnant, I knew i should quit. The doctor knew I smoked, knew the situation and told me to cut down as much as possible, but don’t worry so much about quitting, if i could, great, if I couldn’t keep it under 3 a day.. He knew i was under enough stress as it was. I did keep it under 3 a day.. (normally 1-2) and my daughter came out fine at 8lbs 4oz. Time will tell of course, but so far, she’s fine.

This time? I’m 11 weeks pregnant tomorrow, been basically quit since 6 weeks. (been really quit since 8))

The ONLY reason I was albe to is smoking or the thought of it made me REALLY ILL. I had no real intention on quitting all the way, I figured I’d cut down as much as I could. I didn’t have the willpower if it wasn’t for the sickness. I wish they made me as ill with my first, Of course, No, with my first, I spent 9 months puking, but the ciggerettes were the one thing that didn’t make me sick, go figure. For me, the Mental part of smoking is still there. I still have the moments where I wanna go out and have one or if i get around people who smoke, it’s a bit hard, but the Addiction is gone. The habit of doing it for 10+ years is not however. lol I’m hoping it goes away.
In all honestly, I think you should talk to your doctor about it, and maybe he can give you some ideas. I’m not sure the gum or patches are safe, (less or more safe than smoking anyway) so i don’t want to suggest you do anything until you speak to your doctor. The best thing i got for you is to try and cut down as much as possible. Do things that you do when you aren’t smoking, if you smoke while on the phone with people or outside, try not to talk on the phone as much or go ourside as much. figure out how many cigarettes you smoke and cut one out every week, or 2 out every week. (depending on how many you smoke, I was under a half a pack a day when i cut down with my first).
I have no idea how far along you are..maybe morning sickness still has some time to take over and make you ill enough to quit, lol But I wish you the best of luck in quitting. I know it’s super hard. It’s still a daily thing I think about I still have my stressful moments. But you stay strong. don’t think so much of quitting, just cutting down right now. You might find that cutting down isn’t so hard, then maybe quitting all together won’t be so hard. I’m guessing your doctor will have some suggestions/help for you.

What Is The Best Way To Quit Smoking Which Is Reasonably Inexpensive?

I need to stop smoking. I got addicted and didn’t think I would. It sucks and I hate them, but I cannot stop. Don’t even say cold turkey…

Well, I think most nicotine patches and nicotine gum and the like is generally somewhat expensive, but that is just what I have heard, as I have never bought any myself, so maybe you ought to look into it. If you don’t want to quit cold turkey, you could just try to regulate how much you smoke every day, and then gradually decrease the # of cigarettes you smoke (since that is the idea behind the patches and gum, so you gradually need less and less nicotine).

You would have to be strict with yourself for that to work though, and not just decide you can smoke 5 more cigs for the day, just because you have a bad day, or bum a bunch off of your friends.

You could maybe set out however many you are going to smoke for the day, and put them in an empty pack, and then just smoke from that pack, so you won’t be tempted by a whole bunch of cigarettes sitting in your pocket.

You actually have to be determined to quit though, or nothing will work.

I Quit Smoking Using Chantix But When Can I Say I Really Quit?

I quit smoking about 2.5 months ago. I’m proud of it and tell people that I quit, but some people say that I’ll just pick it up again. Is it like, once an addict always an addict? Anyone know the percentage of people that quit who stay quit for life?

Who cares what the percentage is? You are your own person, not the average person.
You’ll have cravings for life, but remember… they are quick (only a few seconds), so dont bother caving in.
If you feel like you need extra support now and then, or have questions, try out this site. I used it when I quit and it was awesome!

I smoked for 15 years and was up to 3 packs a day..I had a very bad addiction…I quit cold turkey(for about the tenth time)and that was 17 years ago…it certainly can be done..you re on the right track and have the hard part behind you…the trick is keeping it off your mind..I would’nt even think or talk about it …it makes it much easier..your doing great!

I think when you dont feel you are dependant on cigs anymore. If you are fine now without them, youve quit, congrats
you might also want to try a liver cleanse..i heard it is good for people who quit smoking.

Well, If you have true friends, they’ll support you all the way through even if people say you will always be addicted; DON’T BELIEVE IT! My dad quit smoking because he was so inlove with my mom, he did it out of love! Besides, if you have your mind set on that goal, don’t let your friends down, and more importantly, don’t let yourself down!

Has Anyone Tried Chantix? If So, What Were Your Views On It? What Other Aid Can I Use To Quit Smoking?

I would like to quit but like anyone who does smoke, it is a something that is difficult. I don’t want to put on the pounds or be a lunatic.

Ok, so I’ve tried the gums and the patches and my brother tried Chantix. He got depressed on it and still smokes.
I have managed to quit smoking for only a month (twice) in the past. However, at no time did I successfully get nicotine OUT of my body.
About 3 weeks ago, I was trolling the internet and found the website below. This dude has been helping nicotine addicts for 30 years. His advice (which I wholeheartedly agree with) is:
Nicotine is a drug that is addictive. If you cannot quit using nicotine, you are an addict. The ONLY way to overcome nicotine addiction is COLD TURKEY. You must purge your body of the drug. After 72 hours, your body will be rid of nicotine and then all you will have to do is change your daily habits for the next 2 to 3 weeks as the urges become less and less.
It has worked for me and I know I will…. NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF
Good luck

Chantix is an excellent treatment, but you need choose a “quit date” when you will stop smoking. You can smoke during 7 first days to adapt your body, but then you have to make sure to try and stop smoking on your “quit date”.

My grandfather used Chantix and it worked WONDERS for him. He smoked for over 30 years and it helped him quit. An he didnt put on weight either. He also is very active.
Good luck in quitting!

How Can I Quit Smoking, I Wanna To But I Cant?

Im 16 and stupidly got in to smoking, i wanna quit but i cant seem to, my parents don’t know and i don’t want them to ever find out. I have been smoking for about a year I really wanna quit but i don’t know how. Please help

If you believe you have enough will-power you could stop cold turkey.
One day I decided to become a vegetarian, and that was over a year ago, and I’m still one.
Try cutting down slowly, getting down to one per week.
Then just stop, don’t let yourself get to them.
Don’t go out and spend your money on cigs, go buy clothes.
You could also try taking Nicotine gum which will probably fasten the quitting process.
You can purchase it at any pharmacy and Wal-Mart.
Also the Nicotine Gum website ships you a free two week trial of gum or something.

My friend is in the same situation! Quitting smoking is one of the most challenging things you can do, but you have to believe you’re strong enough. Start by weening yourself off. Smoke less each week, so that it’s bearable. Try the nicotine patches and gum, too.
This website is helpful for trying to quit:http://www.anti-smoking.org/?gclid=CJ_2i…
and if you need to talk to someone it’s a great idea to call

It’s great that you want to quit! I hope I was helpful :)

What Is Considered To Be The Best Quit Smoking Method?

May 16, 2009 by admin
Filed under Best Way To Quit Smoking

Among all the different treatments available to quit smoking, what is generally considered to be the best, most effective way to quit and stay quit? I want to quit but I’ve been having a hard time with it.

I struggled to quit for a long time, but never was comfortable with pills or patches. And at the end of the day, I found an intelligent way to quit smoking.
The important thing is to realize that smoking creates strong emotional bonds – and it is these bonds that need to be severed. Physical cravings only serve to wake up memories of the emotion…
Once that realization and awareness sets in, it is then important to reframe your thinking about smoking. Instead of saying “I am stressed and therefore I smoke” say “I am stressed but there are other ways to deal with it”. This shift in thinking is important.

Cold turkey has been shown to be the most effective method over the long run. That’s what I did when I quit in 1994. For years I tried to quit using all sorts of methods, but when I was ready, it went like a breeze. I had 3 cartons in the house when I decided to quit, & I smoked every single one of them. My doc gave me a prescription for the patch in case I needed it.(Remember, back then there weren’t as many options available as there are now.) I just timed it so tht I had one cigarette left after supper, smoked it, & have never touched another one. I have to admit tho that if I’m in line at a store, & the person ahead of me is a smoker (you can smell it!), I have to restrain myself from asking “hey if I give you a dollar can I chew on your sleeve?” In other words the urge is still there but I’m strong enough to resist it. You just have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. Do it!! Its amazing how much better you feel!

I already know the side effects on smoking grass. I only need to know how did other people stop cold turkey. Please keep your negative narrow minded suggestions to yourselves! I need help not to be made to feel more worse than i already feel.

Habit is hard to break ( Very hard to quit cold turkey, it is what it is… however, if you want to be smart about it and figure out what keeps you there than you can quit. I know what keeps me smoking is the smoke and holding a cigarette in my hand and inhaling it after I ate… Obviously I miss it too much when I can’t smoke after food or when I’m excited or when I’m on the phone… you got the idea. Smoking is my safe haven for a lot of things. So, I go smart and I got on the internet to see what I can do to quit. I found it….. next sentence will sound like I’m selling the product, which I am, however, this will give you a start and you can do your own homework to see what keeps you smoking. I found electronic cigarettes that simulate smoke… which is what I am really missing when I want to smoke. So I bought it, tried it and I love it. Do you homework on what keeps you smoking and hit the internet in search for your addiction. My site will give you a start.

New Year 2009 Resolution: Quit Smoking!

869510_red_and_gold_4Standing with your glass of champagne in your hand, counting down the seconds to twelve and the new year, you make a rapid status of your life. And this is when your New Year resolution takes shape. You decide you want to lose weight, see your family more often and quit smoking. But are your going to keep your New Year resolution? Hardly, for a decision to change a habit or behavior is not just something you just implements from one day to another – your decision must be given time to mature.

The key to success lies in careful planning and putting in some very specific goals that are attainable. Here are some quit smoking tips, that will guide you through the new year resolution of quitting smoking and how to keep it.

New Year resolution: I will stop smoking

You must really want to stop smoking. So think about the benefits of smoking and the benefits of giving up. Weigh your arguments against each other. If you decide to quit smoking, think of how it should be implemented.

Before you actually quit smoking, think about how and when you smoke now – your smoking habits. When you have a clear picture of your smoking habits, consider what your can do instead when you no longer smoke. Think of the alternatives – instead of a smoke break at work, you can eat a piece of fruit or go for a walk. Instead of smoking right after dinner, start chewing on your favorite chewing gum – this could be a nicotine chewing gum, if that is your preferred quit smoking method.

After you have quit smoking, your metabolism slow slightly down and you risk facing the much feared quit smoking weight gain. This can be avoided entirely by exercise, which also works well against the physical symptoms of smoking cessation, anxiety and restlessness, and when you are irritable.

Get support from others in the same situation by getting them to stop smoking at the same time, or by signing up for a smoking cessation course.

Should you take a cold turkey or gradual tapering off of nicotine products such as nicotine patch or nicotine gum? Or a quit smoking pill? If you have smoked for many years and / or have smoked several cigarettes each day, it may be helpful to use nicotine chewing gum in a transitional phase to take the top of the physical symptoms, so you can concentrate on breaking the habits that are not is so easy to change. But remember that nicotine chewing gum should not become a new addiction.

8 ways to keeping you New Years resolution:

  1. You must really want it. Feel it in your heart, and not only in your head, or you might drop it again.
  2. Set realistic and attainable goals. Your goal should be as specific as possible. Say for example, that you will quit smoking before March 1st, instead of just saying that you will quit smoking.
  3. Focus on what you want to achieve instead of what you want to avoid.
  4. Visualize the goal – imagine, for example, a more healthy version of yourself.
  5. Plan carefully. You need to know what you would do in various tempting situations.
  6. Get support from your environment.
  7. Do not have a bad conscience, if you occasionally fall in. Blame will get you nowhere.
  8. Evaluate your progress and praise yourself for the goal when you accomplish it.

Stop Smoking – the Natural Way

quit-smoking-the-natural-wayIf you do not use drugs, no patches, gum or other nicotine-based products, it is impossiple to stop smoking – right? Many scientists point out that those who take the challenge to stop smoking naturally and without artificial quit smoking medication or aids, actually get into the toughest experience of their lives.

There are two ways to do so. You can either cut off cigarettes now and for good, which is commonly refered to as a “cold turkey” or you can lower the nicotine intake according to a pre-defines schedeule.

Let’s examine these two stop smoking naturally ways and see how good they prove to be. Those who want to stop smoking naturally are usually against using artificial quit smoking medications or are not willing to expose themselves to side effects such as dizziness, sleep disorders or headaches that are often associated with such quit smoking drugs – for instance the quit smoking pill Chantix has a long list of side effects. For the cold turkey stop smoking naturally solution, chances of success are lower and you’ll see why.

First of all, if you want to stop smoking naturally and gradually get rid of the nicotine addiction you must make a plan and stick to it by all means. In other words, this means that you’ll have to continue to reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke a day. In order to stop smoking all together, you’ll have to help your body by other methods, and compensate for the absence of nicotine.

One way to do this is to exercise, this not only reduces stress, but it also reduces the urge to smoke. You can stop smoking naturally by increasing the amount of sweet fruit you eat a day, since less nicotine means less sugar in the blood. The fructose you’ll get from the diet should compensate, without exposing you to overweight risks.

Then you may also support the stop smoking naturally determination by plenty of physical exercises and good body hydration, since thus you eliminate toxins from the system.

In case you choose to stop smoking naturally but abruptly, you’d better be ready for some rough times lying ahead. Unless you master yourself very well and stick to the decision not to smoke, you may not  succeed. However, statistics show that this way to stop smoking naturally is highly traumatic for the body since the nicotine withdrawal brings a whole range of cravings. The battle to stop smoking naturally will get you through anxiety, depression, increased stress, headaches, sweating, low energy levels, irritability and so on. You may ease the cravings when you try to stop smoking naturally, by hydration, alternative relaxation methods, lots of physical exercises and even counseling.

Good luck!
