i started taking a new drug called “champix” 5 weeks ago. it makes you quit smoking because after the first week of taking the pills, cigarettes taste gross and you can’t physically finish one because of the taste. fine and good, i haven’t had a cigarette for a month now, so i should be happy right? no. the drug also makes alcohol and caffeine taste gross too. so i can’t have a smoke, a beer or a coffee any more without feeling nauseous. this sucks. my whole life is different.i wish i was still smoking because i was happier. does that make sense?
I think the medication you are referring to is Chantix (varenicline), which is a medication for smoking cessation.
Its possible that your coffee use and Alcohol use are both tied with your smoking experiences in the past, which is the case with most smokers I have come in contact with. However there is not clinical data to support this phenomenom.
The side effects you are having with alcohol and caffeine might just be temporary. It isn’t listed as a side effect on any of my pharmacy school sources.
If the medication therapy is causing you issues in your life I would recomend speaking with your pharmacist. Most local pharmacies are well trained in a number of alternatives for smoking cessation.
Whatever you do, don’t start smoking again. You are already past the hardest part, to go back now would just mean that you would eventually try to stop again.

Although i dont smoke i think i understand what your talking about.
Look at it this way you’ve come this far without smoking a cigarette and it’d be a shame to just give up now. Also your doing this for the good of your health, right? You don’t want to become just another statistic in the damage that smoking causes, correct? It may seem like it sucks now but it just takes time and patience and before you know it you’ll be used to not smoking and not care and once your done with the whole “champix” thing you can get yourself a nice cold beer and or coffee and celebrate
you’ve done great so far so why stop?
hope i helped sweetie
It’s a good thing that you find alcohol and caffeine gross now that your quitting! I usually find myself in need of a cigarette when I’m drunk and when I’m drinking coffee. Quitting cigarettes might be the best thing I’ve ever done, though. I have more money, my clothes don’t stink, and I don’t cough up disgusting things in the morning :]
I know the feeling, somewhat. I quit for three weeks, last year, and the only reason I started back up was due to stress, and I also drank a beer! I wish I hadn’t, as I started back up. I am now day 2 into quitting again, and this time I mean business! I just came back from the store and instead of turning toward the withdrawal symptoms and buying that pack (& a beer, which I really wanted!!) I bought some baby carrots, grape tomatoes, honey tangerines, an asian pear, cherry lime ade, a mixed berry smoothie and an orange bell pepper. My head feels weird, probably withdrawal symptoms but yes, eventually it will go away, as long as you’re doing something with your hands. You were happier when you were feeding the addiction, the addiction doesn’t like being ignored, and you’re having a hard time coping. Replace the nicotine that you have put into your body and feed it full of good things it needs, as it’s helping me somewhat. Good luck! this isn’t easy, but it wasn’t easy when we started!
Bearcat hit on something; alcohol, caffeine and tobacco do go hand in hand, and both are triggers to smoking. He’s right in that he says to stay away from those triggers. You ARE on a roll, keep going with it!
do you mean chantix? and that is the reason you’re feeling like that. i took it and wow i can’t even explain it… it sucks. it makes you crazy and depressed and have no interest in ANYTHING. i quit cold turkey. TRUST ME when i say its 19438394734 times EASIER THAN CHANTIX bc your not depressed just irritatable and antsy for a few days than the worst is over and you feel happy and healthy! no lie. get off chantix and give cold turkey a try, i garantee you’ll be soo happy.
